On Macs on browsers particularly on Chrome the microphone setting needs to be switched on to enable it to work. This generally happens when a different or new mac laptop is used for a live sale. The microphone setting for Chrome, once switched on once, will not need to be switched again.
You can tell if the microphone setting in Chrome is switched off when a microphone is connected to a Macbook. If you check the URL address bar in the Chrome browser, the microphone icon positioned at the end of the address bar, has a line over it, meaning the microphone is turned off for Chrome.
To change the microphone setting on Mac laptop:
- Go to System Settings
- Then go to Privacy & Settings
- Then click on Microphone
- Then switch the Google Chrome setting to 'on'
